We were honoured to have been asked to provide solemnization cupcakes for a very special bride. Having known the bride since we were teenagers, we also designed her 过大礼 (or Betrothal Gift Exchange) cupcakes some months before.

Keeping in line with her bridal theme, each Hershey's cupcake is topped with a simple rose. Each cupcake was then wrapped with an intricate and delicate filigree cupcake wrapper and that was the icing on the cake to give the entire reception an overall romantic feel.

The final combination of red and pink roses provided the a beautiful, romantic and memorable garden feel to an Unforgettable day.

We received a request from a loving wife who wanted to surprise her husband for his birthday.

Her husband had written a book based on Chinese scholars from the Qing Dynasty. The main focus on each Hershey's cupcake was the book itself and surrounding the book - our special touch - 12 Qing Emperors!

We received a request to create the latest blue craze! Smurfs! Cupcakes with individual smurfs (and their toadstool homes) adorned the top of each cupcake.

Gargamel and his cat joined the fray and it was a colourful sight to behold!

Hershey's cupcakes was the icing on the cake and because Mum had 3 parties (yes 3!) for the birthday boy, one of the celebrations included the 喜羊羊 cupcakes!

I remembered my first memory EVER - was during my 3rd birthday party. Standing over my cake, with my throng of cousins beside and behind me, waiting to sing Happy Birthday to me.

So how could I possibly say no to this request?

Cupcakes and Cakes were in Hershey's flavour (yes, if you haven't realized by now, it truly is our all time favourite flavour!).

Remember Princess Claris? We created a fairytale castle for her 6th birthday and her mummy requested for a Cowboy theme for her litttle brother Cadyn's 4th birthday.

Strawberry cupcakes were adorned with cowboy themed embellishments from cowboy hats, a cactus, horseshoe and even little edible cows!

The cake had a chocolate fence surrounding the sides and was topped off with a cowboy hat, a lasso and horseshoes. How could we forget a cactus along the side and paisley prints from cowboy bandanas were on the wordings for Cadyn.

Rayhan's 2nd Birthday - the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Way!

It brings me great personal pleasure to be able to use my gift of creating lovely creations to bring joy to all who enjoy them.

When my cousin approached me to make a cake for my gorgeous nephew Rayhan, how could I say no? He was ringing in the TWOS with a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse cake and I had my heart set on it being the most fantabulous two-dles cake ever!

Our 3-tier cake featured the following favourites:

Bottom Tier - White
Middle Tier - Hershey's
Top Tier - Lemon

It was embellished and topped off with an edible head of Mickey Mouse (yikes!)

With stars bursting from each tier, Ray had a ball of a time and was even captured on camera - staring at the cake! He just couldn't wait to cut it!

I'm not sure if this will be remembered by Ray when he grows up, but for Auntie Audrey, its definitely an Unforgettable memory.

Every little girl dreams of being a princess. 6 year old Claris is no different. The order of the day? A castle cake fit for a princess!

Our 2-tier Hershey's flavoured cake was transformed into a magical fairytale castle with edible ice cream cone turrets!

Chocolate stones were part of the castle, and in even in the back courtyard behind the top towers.

20 princesses (in our princess-themed cupcake liners) accompanied Princess Claris on her magical celebration in school too.

Our cupcakes made an appearance on such an Unforgettable occasion. The union between a Singaporean and a Taiwanese, we married the modern and the traditional with an old favourite - Hershey's.

Love is in the air! We were asked to create cupcakes to celebrate the union of a newly wed couple from beyond our shores.

Joined by their friends in a pink/black/ivory theme, the celebration held special significance as they were surrounded by loved ones and they pledged their love to each other once again in the presence of their loved ones in a religious ceremony.

Roses, Double Happiness and other accents top each cupcake again - each complementing the other in what was no doubt - an Unforgettable occasion for the happy couple.

Hakuna Matata!

We received a request to create Lion King cupcakes! Hershey's flavour was again the flavour of the day.

Each cupcake were frosted in the colours of the desert landscape (red and green and brown). We all know that every child (and adult!) enjoys a certain hazelnut flavoured treat - so we incorporated that into our cupcakes too!

The landscape was then given a coat of gold airbrushing and sprinkled with gold "rocks" and it was then topped off with edible icing images of the beloved stars from the Lion King.

We received a request to create some cupcakes to celebrate a little boy's birthday. He loves Ben 10 and Dinosaurs so what better way than to have your cake and eat it too! LITERALLY!

The first celebration was in school and our birthday boy was Ben 10 for the day. Mummy had heard about our delicious Hershey's flavour and ordered it for the birthday cake. Ben 10 has at least - you guessed it - 10 aliens! Accompanying cupcakes in Strawberry flavour had 12 aliens on it. Can you guess their names?

Zavier's 5th Spiderman Birthday - the Unforgettable Way!

We received a request to create a truly unique cake. Our Spiderman-themed cake was a tremendous success and we had more fun creating it than we expected!

The birthday boy loved Spiderman but he loved the "evil Spiderman (aka Venom)" even more! We designed the icing image with a very sombre Venom. With every villian, the hero is never far away.

Cupcakes in the colours of Spiderman accompanied this cake with its bright red/blue colours.

Our all time favourite flavour - Hershey's - was requested again. The cake was given a brush coating similar to steel and it was completed with an image that sparkled! It even had a border of "broken glass" to complete the effect.

It seems like our Chanel cupcakes are not entirely forgotten! We had created Chanel cupcakes on 2 previous occasions (view them here and here) and just like the legacy of Coco Chanel, they are a big hit!

No other flavour was as truly deserving (yet) of Coco Chanel as our best seller - Hershey's! Frosted with a delicious chocolate hazelnut frosting and topped off with the characteristic double C's that we've all grown to love and adore, the cupcakes received rave reviews.

Our Outrageously Addictive Chocolate Chip Cookies have made it out of Singapore over to the West Indies - arriving finally at Trinidad and Tobago!

One of our dear friends, Gina of Gina's Chocolate Truffles is expecting her first baby and we couldn't resist sending some sweets over to her. After all she sent us some truffles that were to die for.

After a failed delivery (thanks to Singapore Post), we're thrilled that Gina's proud Mum (and excited grandma-to-be) was able to bring this right to Gina. Finally! After a short detour to India, our OACCC finally arrived and were still yummy for the devouring!

Congratulations Simon and Gina on the impending arrival of baby Olivia. I'm sure the journey so far, and the journey to come will be Unforgettable!

We were approached to create some cupcakes and a main cake for a corporate event. The event was to commemorate a special occasion between 2 business partners and to celebrate their union in a partnership. A marriage of two partners, working together, towards a future.

The order of the day? 80 Hershey's cupcakes adorned with different embellishments to symbolize a wedding, and a main cake so that the happy "couple" can cut it together.

Cupcakes were embellished with roses in 4 different colours, Double Happiness (喜喜), butterflies and simple rosette swirls.

The main cake contained an edible icing image of the reason why this union is a match made in heaven!

We received a request for a little mermaid cake to help celebrate Maya's 3rd birthday.

Maya's mummy provided the Ariel doll and we created a delicious Hershey's cake complete with edible chocolate stones and waves to look just like the ocean!

Our sugar art also made its debut and Maya's cake had lots of seashells and starfish - all created with sugar and all were give a pearl finish.

To keep in line with the ocean and Little Mermaid theme, birthday greetings were spelt out in sugar too and these resembled broken glass.

Our icing sheets are an actual layer of icing that bonds with the icing on the cake. Our icing sheets are made of sugar, taste great, and will last up to a year on the shelf when properly sealed. Refrigeration is not required. all images on our icing sheets are printed with edible inks and are Halal.

Here's how you can order your icing sheet:

Sending Files:

If your files are larger than 3MB, we would like to recommend that you use a third party file transfer platform such as www.yousendit.com to send your large files through to us.

If you have more than 1 file attachment and if the total size is more than 3MB, you can either:

1. Separate your attachments into separate emails and email it to us; or

2. Zip your files and email your zip file through to us using www.yousendit.com

Note:

Large files clog our system and affect all of our incoming emails. We appreciate your understanding.

ORDER DEADLINE:

We will require 3 working days (working days are defined as Mondays - Fridays, excluding weekends, Public Holidays and Blackout dates). If you require more than 5 sheets of icing images, please email us to enquire about the required production lead time.

LAYOUT:

Send in your images using our template. Please note that we will NOT amend your image and order for you. Your order will be processed directly from your file. All orders submitted must be ready to be processed, so please ensure that your images are sized and formatted to your own satisfaction before submission.

Please read our order procedure below carefully before emailing your orders to us. For your convenience, we have designed a special template for you to use in your own layout for your image(s). Please be reminded that all orders must be ready sized and formatted to your own satisfaction as we process directly from your attachment.

ORDER PROCEDURE

STEP 1

Format your image to fit our template. Remember DO NOT send us any attachments that are more than 3MB.

Download this template and use your Powerpoint to create your icing image. See below on how to insert and size images in Powerpoint. Just in case you're unable to open the link, the size of the template is 10" x 6.8". that way you'll still be able to achieve your customized design!

Just to be sure, our template is slightly smaller than the icing sheet. We wouldn't want your images to get cut off! Images that are larger than our template may be truncated and the image may be printed onto the plastic backing sheet.

Fonts

To avoid any printing problems with fonts, please use the fonts that comes standard with Windows XP, otherwise the printing of the font will be affected.

Shapes

If you have any irregular or round shaped images, make sure the entire image falls within the template page size. Remember - we don't want any portion of your special image to be printed outside of the template page!

Smaller Cakes/Cupcakes

Depending on the size of your cake/cupcakes, you can create and fit as many images on each icing sheet as it can hold. This way you will be able to maximize your savings too! But remember, the closer your images are spaced to each other, the more challenging it is to cut your images.

STEP 2

Once you have designed your icing image, email the template attachment to us at unforgettable.online@gmail.com and state clearly the following:

1. Number of sheets required

2. Date that you require your icing sheets

Note:

Please note that if you wish to pick up your icing images over the weekends, Public Holidays and Blackout dates, you will need to indicate that in your email at the same time as when you submit your image(s).

We seek your understanding and co-operation in emailing all correspondence for custom order icing images as we will NOT be able to contact you via telephone.

Please note that we DO NOT mail icing images.

STEP 3

Expect our acknowledgment email which will include instructions on how to make your full payment as well as confirmation of your pick up day.

Please allow us one working day to reply to you. If you do not receive an acknowledgment email, kindly resend your order again. Please note that proof of emailing is not proof of receipt. We cannot be held responsible for not receiving your email order promptly.

Most orders are ready after 3 working days but the exact collection date will be stated clearly in our reply. If you do not receive our acknowledgment email after a day, please email us again, as it means we have not received your email. The order is only confirmed when you receive our acknowledgment email and your payment has been received.

STEP 4

Pick it up from us on the date of collection as stated in the acknowledgment email.

How to Insert and Size Pictures into Powerpoint

1. Click on "Insert" tab at the top icon bar to pull down the menu

2. Click on "Picture" to expand the menu, then click on "From File"

3. A window will open showing your files. Locate the directory where you saved your image and click it.

4. To move the image, click on the image and drag to your desired location on the slide.

5. To resize the image, you can either:

Double click on the image. A "Format Picture" window will open.
Click on the "Size" tab. Then manually type in the specific size you want in the "Height" and "Width"
Then click "OK"
Place your cursor at any corner of the image. When the cursor changes into a bi-directional arrow pointing diagonally, just click and drag it in (to shrink it) or drag it out (to enlarge it)

6. If you have fonts in your file, please use the fonts that come standard with Windows XP, otherwise the printing of the font will be affected.

1. No cancellations or refunds will be allowed after orders are laced for custom-order items.

2. The image submitted must not infringe on a copyright. Please be aware that n one may legally SELL any copyrighted items or edible images. of licensed characters made in any mold, pan, edible icing sheet or whatever, without strict and explicit written permission from the OWNER of those copyrights. Unforgettable is NOT in any way responsible or liable for someone we sell an item to and what they do with it once they have it in their possession.

3. Submission of your order means that you have agreed to abide by our terms and conditions, and you have read and understood the answers to the FAQs below.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: How much does it cost?

A1: At $10.00 a sheet, you can fit as many images as you can int one sheet to maximize your savings.

Q2: What is the largest image you can make?

A2: As large as the template permits.

Q3: Will the image be clear?

A3: The printed icing image depends on the resolution of your picture. The higher the resolution, the sharper the end result.

Q4: Will the image and colours be exactly as seen on the draft?

A4: As the machine is not a high end printing press, the colour on the icing images may not look exactly the same as your draft, or what you have seen on your screen before you submit it to us. The difference is minimal and may vary in a few shades for some. While there are instances where the colour tones may be obvious, most of the time, as we've mentioned before - its only minimal.

Corporate Logos

If you are placing a corporate order, please note that we are unable to guarantee that the colour on your icing image may not be in exact compliance to your corporate colour code.

Q5: Why are there tiny black "trackmarks" on the printed icing sometimes?

A5: As icing sheets are thicker than your usual A4 paper, sometimes trackmarks may appear. We will check the quality of prints before releasing it to you but "defects" such as trackmarks, or different shades/tones of colour (as mentioned in A4 above) are part and parcel of such printing, and are out of our control because of the specialized equipment and materials used.

Q6: When can I pick up my image?

A6: We will require approximately 3 working days to process your order. If there is sufficient time, you are able to pick it up before 3 working days. We will email the collection date to you in our acknowledgment and confirmation email.

Please note that we do not send the icing images by mail.

Q7: How do I apply my icing image?

A7: For cakes, you can use all types of icings (eg. buttercream, royal icing, whipping cream, frosting, sugar paste, etc). However, if you are using whipping cream, you will need to spread a very thin layer of oil (butter/cooking oil, etc) at the back of the icing image before laying it on. DO NOT use olive oil as it has a strong flavour. This will form a layer to prevent the air bubbles in the whipping cream from rising and warping the surface of the icing image.

As colour shows through the icing image, we would recommend that your icing be white in colour or light coloured. Follow the steps below on how to appl your icing image:

How to apply the icing image

Ice your cake
Peel off the backing sheet from the icing image
Hold the image from the centre with both hands, then with the centre of the image touching the centre of the cake, spread your hands open slowly to lay the rest of the image on.

If the bubbles appear on the surface, use a small clean toothpick or needle to burst it. Once that's done, you can continue decorating your cake.

Q8: What is the best way to store my icing image before using it, and how long does it last?

A8: The icing image stays fresh for between 2-3 weeks. You will need to store it in a dark place and at room temperature, aware from sunlight or direct artificial light.

Q9: What are the ingredients used in the icing image?

A9: Sugar, starch, liquid glucose, gelatine, stabilizer, vegetable fat, cellulose, titanium dioxide, flavour. The icing sheet is Halal certified. The gelatine used in the ingredient is beef gelatine.

Q10: Are your icing sheets Halal?

A10: Absolutely! Our icing sheets and edible ink are manufactured in Malaysia and are certified Halal by the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia.

My very first memory was standing in front of my birthday cake, celebrating my 3rd birthday. I was surrounded by my cousins, my parents, and I remembered the house was very crowded.

To this day, that memory conjured up unforgettable memories and feelings of "MY special day. No one else's but MINE. All Mine." So, when we received a request from a former work colleague for teeny-tiny cupcakes to celebrate her little girl's birthday, we just couldn't pass this up to create an Unforgettable memory for little Kelicia.

A combination of chocolate and vanilla teeny tiny cupcakes frosted with pastel pink and white frosting, each cupcake was topped off with little fondant butterflies.

We spelt Kelicia's name in bright red lettering (it was her special day after all) and had other butterflies "fluttering" around the entire presentation.

One of Unforgettable's most ardent supporters, Joanne Tan-Elawadi, of Delirious Divas, celebrated turning 30 in style and typical fashion. Themed in Hot Pink and Lime Green, she commissioned us to create her favourite flavours - White and Vanilla - into cupcakes and a main cake in our all time favourite Chocolate.

Since the theme was in hot pink and lime green (right down to the cutlery), Unforgettable customized a cupcake/cake tower to showcase the cupcakes and to crown it with the chocolate cake.

Cupcakes resembled little flowers with fondant butterflies (dusted with edible glitter) for that little extra touch!

We were commissioned by Manfield Employment Services Pte Ltd to create something unique to symbolize the collaboration and business partnership between them and one of their clients. We decided to transform Red Velvet cupcakes (because that was the predominant colour for the client) into a visual feast for the eyes.

Using Manfield's corporate colour, we married the 2 colours to create a wonderful display that - coincidentally was very Christmassy!

The logos of these two corporate giants were transformed into edible images and crowned with little dots of red frosting on the green cupcake, and vice versa, to symbolize how this business partnership complements each other.

A Nissan Teana for a Birthday... Well Not Exactly...

Kelly contacted us to create a cake for her dad's 55th birthday. We suspected it was because they had a new car in the family (well - the car on the cake and the licence plate number was a giveaway I guess...) but it was a challenge we were ready to accept.

This would be a blast of a cake to create and the finished product was both classy and elegant, just like a new car would. Our chocolate pound cake was layered with more chocolate and covered with fondant that was airbrushed in the same colour as the picture of the car (yes an edible picture with the new number of the car!

The cake was bordered with silver and black dragees to complete the elegant and sophisticated finish that you would expect from a brand new set of wheels.

A 7-layered chocolate fudge cake created in the "Alice in Wonderland" theme. The Cheshire Cat is notably missing from the figures that were lined with edible markers on edible rice paper. The surprise laid hidden WITHIN the cake.

Instead of the latest Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland theme, we decided to go for the original Alice in Wonderland cartoon.

We received an order request for 20 cupcakes to celebrate turning 1! After discussing with the birthday boy's daddy, Unforgettable discovered that Alistair enjoys being read to.

The only instructions given to us were half of the cupcakes to be in Vanilla flavour and the other half to be in our Hershey's flavour.

It couldn't be easier! And what better way to encourage, cultivate and remember how important reading is than to have your book and eat it too.

A classic children's story book topped off each cupcake. Edible icing images on fondant books had many First Edition prints such as The Wizard of Oz, The Ugly Duckling, Alice in Wonderland and others.

Happy Wedding Anniversary: Cherry Blossoms Tiered Cake

To celebrate a 37th wedding anniversary, Unforgettable created a 4 tier cake to symbolize the 4 members of the family.

It was the wish of the Mother to visit Japan to follow the Sakura trail but that was too expensive. So to combine the thought and the occasion, a Cherry Blossom cake was created to "bring the sakura trail" to her.

Each cake was roughly finished to give it a more rustic (almost tree trunk) effect and chocolate chips provided the little branches that bloomed into fondant cherry blossoms.

Unforgettable received a request for a Tweenies themed Birthday cake for a little girl's 2nd birthday.

Little Hershey's-flavoured cupcakes frosted in the Tweenies colours topped with mini M&Ms added to the visual feast. The main cake was also Hershey's-flavoured layered with an outrageous amount of chocolate fudge.

The fondant-modelled main Tweenies characters laid in their little bed, complete with bedsheets with floral prints and topped off with a comfy quilt!

The look was complete with edible stones that look so much like the real thing!

Unforgettable would like to wish little Maya a very happy 2nd birthday!

Simple vanilla-flavoured cupcakes complete with Easter colours and topped off with delectable Easter eggs was the request. Topped off with little cute embellishments, these cupcakes were definitely a visual treat.

Step 1:
Remove the instructions and all of the Cupcaketree parts from the box to begin.
Step 2:
Line up the center slots on the two largest crosspieces (tab side up) and slide together.
Step 3:
Line up the slots on the largest disk with the tabs on the base crosspieces and press them into place.

Step 4:
Slide together the next largest crosspieces and press the tabs into the slots on the bottom disk.

Step 5:
Using the next largest disk repeat the process in step 3.

Repeat steps 3 and 4:
Continue steps 3 and 4 until the tree is assembled.

And you can decorate the Cupcaketree to suit your theme too!

Step 1:
Spray paint the crosspieces and the top of the disk using a non-toxic acrylic spray paint. Several light coats may be necessary to achieve the desired color.

Step 2:
Using ¼” double sided tape (found in the notions section of the craft store) cover the edge of the disk. Remove the paper from the double sided tape.
Step 3:
Apply ribbon along the taped edges of the disk.

Step 4:
Add cupcakes and any additional decoration for another beautiful Cupcaketree!

Unforgettable Celebrates World Animal Day 2009

World Animal Day was started in 1931 at a convention of ecologists in Florence as a way of highlighting the plight of endangered species. Since then it has grown to encompass all kinds of animal life and is widely celebrated in countries throughout the world. October 4 was chosen as World Animal Day as it is the Feast Day of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.

It is intended as a day of celebration for anyone in the world who cares about animals. It is not restricted to any one nationality, creed, religion, political belief or ideology.

Launched in the UK on 4 October 2003. organisations, groups, animal shelters, places of worship, schools, clubs and individuals who participated in what was to become an annual event, quite simply, helped make history.

Since the official World Animal Day website was launched in 2003, the number of World Animal Day events taking place throughout the world has increased year upon year and with your help we can ensure the trend continues.

Event - Smash a Soup Bowl to Save the Sharks

When was the last time you were encouraged to break things? This weekend, ACRES is inviting everyone to come into town to throw a soup bowl against a wall. The broken pieces will be used on spot to create a work of are - a gigantic, 15m long mosaic of a shark. As many as 100 million sharks are killed every year, and many of them end up in soup bowls across Asia. The shark fin soup tradition is wasteful and destructive, because when sharks die the entire marine food chain also collapses. So for this World Animal Day, we are asking you to help reverse this habit, and start putting sharks back together. You will be asked to donate $2 for each soup bowl, and the proceeds will go towards ACRES' education and animal welfare efforts. So come down to The Atrium@Orchard, near Plaza Singapura, between 10am and 10pm on 2nd - 4th October to show that you care about animals, the environment and about leaving our marine legacy for future generations. Unforgettable received an urgent request for a Pocky-themed birthday cake.

A group of friends wanted to recreate this delicious snack to celebrate a friend's 23rd birthday.

It was first sold in 1966, and consists of a bread stick coated with chocolate, Pocky became a household name with kids and adults alike.

Unfortunately, budgetary constraints, coupled with the required serving size, Unforgettable was not able to recreate in realistic detail the chocolate-pretzel stick to more accurate dimensions.

Its a Katamari Birthday!

Unforgettable was asked to create a unique birthday cake for a little boy who was turning 6.

An avid fan of the "We Love Katamari" game series, his Mummy wanted him to be able to eat his favourite game too!

The game's plot concerns a prince on a mission to rebuild the stars, constellations and Moon. He rolls a magical, highly adhesive ball called a Katamari around, collecting increasingly larger objects, ranging from thumbtacks to people to mountains, until the ball has grown large enough to become a star.

With little treats hidden within the cake, there is a surprise in every bite!

International Friendship Day celebrations take place on the first Sunday of August every year. The traditional of dedicating a day in honour of friends began in the US in 1935. In 1935, the American Government had killed a person on the 1st Saturday of August. The next day his friend committed suicide in his memory. Since then the American Government declared the 1st Sunday of August as Friendship Day.

Gradually the festival gained popularity and today, Friendship Day is celebrated in a large number of countries. On this day, people send time with their friends, and express their love for them. Exchange of Friendship Day gifts like flowers, cards and wrist bands is a popular tradition of this occasion.

HAPPY NURSES DAY!

Originally celebrated as Nurses Week from 1965 and changed to Nurses Day in the 1980s, Nurses Day is a day set aside to honour and recognise the contribution of nurses to Singapore. It is usually marked with celebrations for nurses, including graduation ceremonies, blood donation drives, concerts, exhibitions, funfairs and charity events. Since 1990, the President has opened the Istana to nurses on this day, to thank them for the contribution to the health and well-being of the nation.

Unlike other countries, which celebrate Nurses Day on 12 May, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, Singapore celebrates Nurses Day on 1 August. This date marks the beginning of the development of nursing in Singapore.

Up till 1885, healthcare in Singapore was poor. While there were several hospitals (in the Pearl's Hill, Sepoy Lines and Kadang Kerbau areas), there was a lack of nurses to support the work of the doctors. The call went out for nurses, and was answered by nuns from the local French Convent, who started nursing at the General Hospital at the Sepoy Lines on 1 August 1885.

On 1 August 2000, President Mr S R Nathan inaugurated the President's Award for Nurses, given out every year to up to three outstanding nurses.

WASHINGTON - FORTY years later, Henry A. Moak, Jr, still loves his pound cake. The Army colonel popped open a military-issued can of pound cake from 1969 at his retirement ceremony, and dug in.
Col Moak got the drab olive can as a Marine helicopter pilot off the Vietnamese coast in 1973. He vowed to hang on to it until the day he retired, storing it in a box with other mementos.
After a formal retirement ceremony, dozens of friends and relatives joined Col Moak in the Pentagon's Hall of Heroes as he opened the can to cheers. Col Moak joked earlier this week that he hoped the can wouldn't explode. It let off a whooshing sound as the pressure seal broke.
'It smells good,' Col Moak said as he put a handful in his mouth. He jokingly staggered back and loudly cleared his throat, while one person yelled out, 'Eeww, gross!' Col Moak pronounced the cake 'good'.
'It's even a little moist,' he said, wiping his mouth. He dared anybody 'gutsy' enough to join him, and retired Lt Gen Paul T. Mikolashek, who was the US Army Europe commander when Col Moak served overseas, took an even bigger piece.
'Tastes just like it always did,' Gen Mikolashek mumbled with a mouthful of cake as Col Moak laughed and clapped.
Col Moak said he wasn't worried about getting sick from any bacteria that may have gotten into the old can, because it looked sealed. But the military discourages eating from old rations.
'Given the risks ... we do everything possible to ensure that overly aged rations are not consumed,' said Lawrence Levine, a spokesman for the Defence Supply Centre in Philadelphia.
Mr Levine named the threats as mold and deadly botulism if the sealing on the food has been broken, which isn't always visible.
Col Moak says though he warned his children over the years not to touch his pound cake, he did let them eat some other rations when they were growing up in the 1980s, including canned spaghetti and crackers.
